Modeling Prompt
How Much Water?
In Class Launch
Use after Unit 2, Lesson 1
Display the prompt: “How much water do you use?”
After a minute of quiet think time invite students to discuss in pairs, “What are all the things you do that use water?”
Collect and display the results of the brainstorming.
Sample responses:
- Drinking water
- Brushing teeth
- Washing hands
- Flushing toilet
- Showering or bathing
- Washing dishes
- Washing clothes
For Task Statement 1 invite groups to record all the results of the brainstorming.
For Task Statement 2 invite groups to compare the brainstorm with the provided table and add any additional rows they would like.
This prompt lends itself well to students creating an infographic as a final product. Display some examples (an image search of "water use infographic" turns up lots of results) so students have an idea of what is expected.
